How does The Red Stiletto differ from other salons?
2 words; products and education. We have chosen to exclusively use Surface haircare and styling products. Surface is high performance, salon exclusive haircare that completely respects personal health and the earth by being 100% organic, vegan, and gluten-free. Their products are also free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, pvp/va, chemicals, and carcinogens. Surface allows our staff to create a healthy environment in the salon and for our guests at home.
When it comes to continuing education, we take it very seriously. Our staff completes a minimum of 12 continuing education classes each year. That’s an average of 1 class per month! Is your current stylist doing this? We believe that in our industry you can never stop learning because trends, products, and techniques are always changing. We love learning and are always excited to be able to show our guests fun, new tips, techniques, and information.
Your salon uses all-natural products. Do they really work as well as traditional salon products?
They actually work even better! Surface truly performs exactly as advertised, if not better. Our bodies are natural and environmental elements that cause hair issues are also naturally occurring. Surface works in tandem with these elements to correct and eliminate your hair dilemmas.
For example, Surface is humidity resistant because of the naturally occurring sugars and starches that bind and hold the hair. When it rains, corn and sugar cane grow. These elements don’t break down because they are one with the environment. Other companies use plastics and glues to bind and hold the hair. Because these are chemical based, they often break down during spells of humidity because the extra moisture breaks down the chemical bonds.
Another example, is hair repair. Our Bassu Oil is fabulous for this! It is currently one of the only oils in the world that is able to penetrate to the inner cortex of the hair. This means, that it heals from the inside out. Other oils use argon oil or additives to “bulk up” their product. While argon isn’t bad, it is a larger molecule and is unable to penetrate the hair strand, leaving it on the exterior. This means in the long run, it is just masking the problem and not actually solving it.

To avoid a miscommunication in the first place, we have a very extensive consultation guide that we go over and fill out with all new guests. Please be 100% upfront and honest with your stylist. We can’t address things that we aren’t aware of. We are not here to judge you. We just want to provide you with an amazing service and educate you along the way so that you can achieve salon hair at home each day. So please tell us about that at home box color kit you used 2 years ago, that chemical straightening service you had, and any medications you may be on. Surprisingly, all of these things (and more) affect how your hair reacts. This information will ensure optimal results each and every time.
